what is inspiration? Is it influence or an excuse for being a copy cat?
I am referring to copy cat because yesterday evening i saw an interview of the cast and crew of hindi feature film THE KILLER.The producer of the film said that the film has been inspired by the hollywood flick COLLATERAL(one which has TOM CRUISE) but the film is totally hatt ke(means different in english) and has been moulded in a completely different way.I just cant understand that how can you mould a so called "inspired" thriller in a separate way if the story line remains the same. It's clear from the promos of the film as the scenes of the film are the replicas of the english flick. There is a scene in the original film in which the taxi driver throws the suitcase of tom cruise(performing the role of a killer),which consists some important things of his interest and the same scene is there in the hindi film THE KILLER.The role of the killer has been performed by none other than Irfan khan, taxi driver's role has been performed by Emran hashmi. The only change is the casting of Nisha kothari who performed the role of a bar dancer...just to give the mediocre Indian audience some item numbers to make the film spicy and so called HATT KE from the original one.So i really dont know what the hell INSPIRATION means to our budding Indian film writers. Is this be regarded as the death of an original idea and than reincarnating it just for the sake of making a mediocre hindi movie......i dont really know.
